We have some news that might raise a few eyebrows.
CHITUBOX has come on board as a major backer of the SoulCrafted Slicer campaign. For those unfamiliar, CHITUBOX makes the slicer that most resin printer owners already use. It’s closed-source, it’s commercial, and yes, it’s the kind of software the SoulCrafted Slicer was partly born as an alternative to.
So this deserves an explanation.
Why Would CHITUBOX Support This?
We launched the SoulCrafted Slicer because we think the resin printing community should have an open-source option. Something not locked behind proprietary walls. Something where the community has a say in how it develops. We still think that. Nothing has changed on that front.
But CHITUBOX clearly see the bigger picture here. The conversation around AI-generated 3D models has the whole industry paying attention, and CHITUBOX have been part of that conversation. They care about protecting original creators and keeping the human side of this craft front and centre. So do we. That’s literally why SoulCrafted exists.
Their view, as we understand it, is that investing in projects like ours is good for the resin printing world as a whole. We agree with that. A stronger, more open ecosystem doesn’t threaten good commercial products. It raises the bar for everyone.
Let’s Be Blunt About Independence
Given it’s nature of the SoulCrafted Slicer and it’s inherent independence – CHITUBOX have zero authority of how the SoulCrafted Slicer gets built. This is a donation, not an investment. There are no strings, no advisory seats and no influence over the roadmap. The development team and the community call the shots.
We would not have accepted this money on any other terms, and we want that on the record.

What This Means for the Campaign
Like every donation to the SoulCrafted Slicer campaign, this money goes directly towards accelerating development of an open-source slicing solution for the resin printing community.
We appreciate CHITUBOX stepping up. It’s a somewhat unusual move, backing a project that exists partly because people wanted something different from what you offer. But that willingness to support the broader community, even when the outcome might not directly benefit you, says something worth acknowledging.
